The back-end system - a summary of the charging event

PlugIt offers a back-end system, specially designed for charging devices, which allows the user to take full advantage of the smart charger.

Any charger having communication capability (i.e. devices supporting the OCPP standard) can be connected to the PlugIt IoT Cloud back-end system, through which the charging events and their implementers are recorded. The customer then receives the reports they require, be they an accumulated report of all events, or a user-specific summary of charging events.

Reporting

The extent of the charging system reports and the items to be reported are specified by customer. Intended practical use is the most significant factor regarding which items are to be reported.

Parties that offer "charge-free" charging services are in principle more concerned with energy consumption per location and possibly with the amount by which CO2 emissions have been reduced by using electric transport. Another point of interest could be e.g. the average cost, or average duration of a charging event.

At a place of work, on the other hand, the amount of energy charged up by one user or tenant, and its value, is significant. These issues are to be handled especially when tthe car to be charged is a private car or a company car. In any event, in a question of an "open" fringe benefit, the company covers the cost of the electricity charged up for running the vehicle.

The back-end system allows the monitoring of e.g. the energy consumption of the charging sytem per location, and the reduced CO2 emissions. The average costs and duration of the charging event can be followed, too.

Remote control

​As well as reporting, the back-end system also acts as a tool for remote management. A smart charger can be controlled through the back-end system. The features to be managed are e.g. the remote starting and terminating of the charging event, testing of the safety components and re-starting of the device, as well as different software updates.

User management

One of the most important functions of the back-end system is user management of the charging device. User rights of the charger and allocation of the charging events to the right user are carried out with the aid of the back-end system.

Multi-portal user management enables the administration of single profiles or different user groups (for example customer loyalty programs). The views of the owner of the charging point and of the party responsible for service and maintenance onto the back-end system are also in a class of their own.

Service and maintenance log

A separate partition has been created into the back-end system for monitoring the service and maintenance activities of the charging system. All documents connected with the system (system charts, field logs, instructions etc) are recorded in the back-end system in order to assist maintenance.

Charging devices with the capacity to communicate will notify of any possible fault situations and thus also the users' information on possible faults and their repair times is channeled into the same connection as reporting and user management.
